Better Bread for NYC

A European expat searching for "the real thing"

Handmade bread sounds way too good not to share this with you. I will DEFINITELY have to check out the UES some time soon! If it just didn’t take forever to get there from Brooklyn…

theues:

Spotted: Perhaps the best bread in town. At Orwasher’s Bakery on East 78th St. between 1st and 2nd Ave.

Bonus: Their sweet treats aren’t half bad either. Try the chocolate-dipped raspberry rugelach or their sugared donuts! (And they serve a mean coffee, too!)

Ooooh, this looks awesome, too! Talking about peanut butter and Marshmallows: A friend and I discovered this awesome peanut butter sandwich place not too far from Washington Square. I had a maple peanut butter and marshmallow fluff sandwich. An American dream! I’ll find out where it was exactly and will tell you more about it, soon…
apaintedday:

Polka dots in a different light. I love it! This looks delicious by the way. I used to eat giant marshmallows like that all the time in marshmallow and peanut butter sandwiches. I’ll have to try this idea!

This looks delicious. And sooo girly! I think I might have to expand the subject of this blog and start to blog about just ALL of the exciting things I get to eat in this city. Or at least I should blog about cupcakes and doughnuts, too. YES, I will do that to have an excuse to eat at least one cupcake and one doughnut a week! :

DIY: New York Deli Rye Bread

Happy Saturday!

I LOVE Saturdays. You get to have time to do some fun stuff and yet you know you won’t have to go to work or be responsible the next day. How awesome!

Talking about fun stuff: Instead of going somewhere to buy bread for your Sunday brunch, why not do it yourself for once? My favorite food blogger Deb Perelman (smittenkitchen.com) posted this awesome Rye Bread Recipe a while ago. Enjoy and let me know how it went for you!

Bread Quote of the Day

“The smell of good bread baking, like the sound of lightly flowing water, is indescribable in its evocation of innocence and delight.” —M.F.K. Fisher

How true! I hope you all have a great day and a good sandwich for lunch… :)

Bread Time!

I just found this list with 10 of the best European style breads you can find in NYC. All the loaves look just DELICIOUS and I hope I’ll have time in my lunch break tomorrow to get at least one of them..

Until then, you can take a look on the list, too: Our 10 Best Loaves of Bread in NYC

Which one do you think I should try first?

I just saw what I think is liquid chocolate on its way into a cup of hot milk… THAT’s the way to make hot chocolate! I guess I will have to pay Le Pain Quotidien a visit for this blog, too…

theues:

Spotted at Le Pain Quotidien: The best lunch in town.

A few Le Pains dot the Upper East Side; today’s lunch was brought to you by the newly expanded East 88th St. and Lexington location.

I present to you without comment: Pastries; Hot Chocolate; and a Butternut Squash Frittata.

Bagel Time!

A new bread and bagel place opened right next to my job this weekend. Hoooray! Of course, I had to check it out on my lunch break today.

Sorry, the pic is a little blurry, but you still get the idea…

I fell in love with this little guy today. Sooo good! A real multigrain bagel, made from real whole grain flour (or at least it seems to be). Works perfectly well as a small lunch. Two thumbs up for that, Panera Bread at 7th Ave and 29th Street!

By the way, the coffee was pretty good, too (Latte with extra shot of espresso). All together only about $7. I guess that’s my new favorite lunch break destination.

See you there some time?

I missed German Karneval (the real one, in Cologne) this year. :-( But it’s still good to know that it theoretically exists in the United States. I’ll be there next year, hopefully!

Happy Fat Tuesday! How will you celebrate Mardi Gras this year? As they say in Louisiana, Laissez les bons temps rouler (Let the good times roll)!

Amazing! I’m trying the Lin-Mint Shake this week. Will report back.
Via eyeheartnewyork:

#Lindulgent! The Jeremy Lin Mint Milkshake, at the UES Shake Shack. The second best thing to come from #Linsanity, besides his point total. Lin Linfully delicious! Will Lincrease your waist size! Going to need some Linsulin for this!  OK, I’ll stop now with this Linane crap.
